- The people used make all their own clothes long ago, out of the wool of the sheep and flax. First they would spin the wool into thread, and knit, or weave it. Then they would dye it. Dye was got by boiling furze blossom in water, and the yellow water was dye.
For starch they would scrape a raw potato into cold water and boil the water then.
For light they would make candles of tallow in a shape or a mould. Instead of matches they used flint and steel.
They had their own meat, butter, bread, and potatoes.
