As the strange man saw the farmer was determined to hold the cow, he soon changed his attitude, and asked the farmer the price he wanted for the cow. The farmer demanded a high price, but the strange man did not haggle, or try to reduce the sum. He only said to the farmer to come again at the same hour the following morning, and that the money would be in a certain spot inside the fort, which he showed him, and on these conditions the farmer released the cow. *
Before parting, the strange man gave him a strict warning that the money he would find ready for himin the fort the morning after should not be kept in his possession after sunset that evening.
He came as agreed and found the exact sume bargained for, in the very spot the strange man had pointed out. He went immediately and paid his rent and all the debts he owed and he had the last penny of it disposed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
