- There is a ruined castle in this district. It is situated at Donemark in the parish of Cill mac Comóg in the Barony of Bantry and in the Co. Cork. This was a large castle and the people say it is very old. It was built of cut stone and it had a dungeon. This castle was derelict long ago.
The walls are still to be seen up to this moment. It was built by the O Sullivans. But the English took it and used it themselves. In it, it is said, men were foully put to death. The block on which they were beheaded is said to be there still. People say that this block was thrown out but suddenly it disappeared and got back into the room, where it was before. The same thing happened twice.- Collector
