- My Townland - BallaghThe name of my townland is "Ballagh". This townland got its name from a path which came from Elphin to Drumsna. People used to come on this path, because it was a short cut to Drumsna Station. My townland is situated in the parish of Kilmore, about five miles from Carrick - on - Shannon.
There are six or seven families in my townland, and there are a great many people in it also. The family name that is most common in my district is Beirne.In my townland there are a great many thatched houses, and this gives us a little knowledge, that it must be a very ancient place. There are no old people living in my townland. But there is an old ruined house, and the name of the man who lived in it was Glancy.There are a few caves in my townland, and there is a great big fort in it also.
