  1. In the olden days people had home made cures for almost all ailments. A never failing healing ointment for burns was made from sweet oil, lime and white of egg.
    A stye on the eye was cured by pointing nine gooseberry thorns to the sore before sunset and throwing each over the right shoulder.
    A child born with a veil-- the veil was used to save from drowning.
    The seventh son was supposed to have the cure of ringword. Garlic was used for many ailments and was taken raw or boiled in milk for colic or cough.
    People who crept under a briar were confidence in winning their law-suits.
    People suffering intense pains in the head sought relief by having the head measured on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday by some old person having the cure of head fever.
