  1. In a village near Lough Gara once lived a man named Thomas Duffy who had saved up a great amount of money. He was very proud because he was so rich. He was too grand to speak to his neighbours. Nobody would come near him, because he kept big dogs to drive them away. He had servants to do his work and he half starved them, because he was too miserly to give them enough to eat. He hated to see beggars coming and he never gave them anything.
    One day a strange looking beggar woman came to ask for alms. "Go away" he said "I did not make money to throw it away on idle drones like you. A beggar will never possess a penny of my money."
