A Story
Tradition tells us that there were fairies in Ireland long ago. Many people of the present day believe in those weird fairy tales which are related to us by the old people. A story is told to us by an old pensioner of the locality that on one occasion he was returning from rambling at a late hour of the night, when suddenly he saw a crowd of people coming towards him. As they advanced nearer to him he could see plainly that they were fairies according to the peculiar fashion of dress in which they were attired. They marched forward in couples singing and dancing. The man became a little timorous, and as the fairies passed him by, they all shouted in one chorus, "póacal, póacal". At that moment the man glanced suddenly round, and saw that they had vanished out of sight.- Bailitheoir
