- Long ago it was an old custom for the people to get married before Lent. It was always said that Saturday was an unlucky day for getting married. For the old people used to say, "Saturday's flit has a short sit." The customs held on this day are : - The groom has to go to the bride's house that morning and then go on to the Church. They also thought it was very unlucky to go back to the bride's house for breakfast after being married. Always when the girl of a house is getting married her mother would give a bed and some furniture. They father would give her a cow or maybe one or two dozen of hens or maybe(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
