- There was a steam flax mill at Redhills, owned by a man named Mr Hyde. It manufactured linen every Winter. This gave employment to about 20 men and women.
Candles were made out of peeled rushes. There was a spade making factory about one mile from Clones.
Mr Curry of Redhills made gates, ploughs, and fire cranes. There were several people spinning and weaving in our district. The people thatched their own houses. There was tanning of leather in Clones. Beside Scotshouse there was a barrel and churn making factory. At the County bridge - between Cavan and Monaghan, a man named Reilly made wheels.
