    Sweet Listening Hill.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
The "Rose of Avelbane" was a girl called Aggy Eccles of Avelbane.
"Sweet Mary Jane" is by an unknown composer. The girl was 'Mary Jane Curry' of Gallagh, Clontibret.
Another poem of unfavourable repute was written by a man named Frank McAdam of Tirmacmoe in praise of the local landlord, Lucas of Castleshane. Apparently the landlord's wife wished to have the houses in Tirmacmoe Hill knocked down as they interfered with the view from the castle in that direction.
McAdam composed the poem in praise of Lucas - and called it 'Sweet Castleshane' - and was allowed to remain while the others were put out and their houses destroyed. These are the last few lines:
Long may you live and long may you reign,
    And long may your sweetness,
    Remail round Castleshane.
