    the logwood into a large vessel of water and boiled it for some time. They then put the copperas into the water and stirred it until the copperas was dissolved. Then the clothes were put in and boiled, until they were coloured and dyed sufficiently. In olden times when no powder dyes were to be found, people dyed their clothes in this way.
