    In olden times all the houses were made from stone and mortar and the fire was nearly always in the gable. The chimney was made also from stone and mortar The most of the houses were thatched with rushes.
    About one hundred years ago there were new cottages built and ever since there are special men paid for looking after them.
    There were alot of half doors long ago and there still remain a few. The people used turf and timber for firewood.
