Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Proverbs are very common in Ireland especially in the country places. Some of the proverbs originated from true happenings and others were used by Poets and Authors when they were writing and composing poems. There was a famous Scotch Poet named Burns and he used a lot of proverbs in his poems.. We also find a number of proverbs in different parts of the Bible. The following are a number of proverbs.
    1 "Make hay while the sun shines."
    2 "The early bird catches the worm."
    3 "A stitch in time saves nine."
    4 "It's a long lane that has no turning."
    5 "When the cats away the mouse will play".
    6 "A rolling stone gathers no moss".
    7 "He who steals a pin would steal a greater thing".
    8 "Birds of a feather flock together".
    9 "Many hands make light work".
    10 "Too many cooks spoil the broth".
    11 "A slip of the tongue is no fault of the mind".
    12 "Look after the pence and the pounds will look after themselves".
    13 "Throw out a sprat to catch a salmon".

    15 "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".
