    read:-
"Beneath this rustic pile of stones
Lie the remains of Mary Jones -
Her name was Lloyd; it was not Jones,
But Jones was put to rhyme with stones."
The letters of the epitaph on the tombstone are incised. Raised characters were used occasionally in the beginning of the eighteenth century but as the century advance they were given up owing to their expensiveness. The raised lettering, if more costly, is far more enduring than the other.
