- Long ago the old people had a lot of customs they used to say it was not right to go to live in a new house until Friday or to start certain work until Friday. They used to bring home a coal from the bonfire on St. John's night and they used to throw it into the crops. They used to eat cakes that they used to bake on the grid iron. And when the cow used to calf they used to tie a red cloth to her tail. They used to say that if two people used to put down a fire together that they would be fighting. They used to say that if a bit of straw used to follow a hen that it used to be a death in the village.
