When St.Brigid began her missionary career she founded convents in various parts of Connacht and many holy wells are named after her in Co. Roscommon and Co. Galway the most famous being Kilbride near Roscommon and St. Bridget's well at Athenry.
In ancient times these places were remarkable for the annual pilgrimages to their holy waters and even up to the present time stations are performed at those wells by people from the surrounding districts.- Faisnéiseoir
