  1. Churning
It was an old custom long ago when the people would have churned they would move the dash upwards and downwards "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost." Some people used to put salt under the churn or into the churn. It is an old custom with the people to get help from the person who would go into house. They believed that if they did not do that the butter would be brought. If they were giving away milk they would put a drop of water in it for fear that that the butter would be brought. Also it was believed by some people that if a person brought out something out of the house before the milk would be churned and if they did not bring back what they brought you could be churning for the whole day and the milk would never come to butter.
