- 1. The Ballygowan Evictions on the Lewis estate were in 1886. The rents on most holdings were exorbitant and the tenants asked for a reduction of five shillings in the £, and offen which the Land Lord refused.
The tenants joined the plan of campaign and that meant to fight to a finish.
2. The tenants were unable to pay and the landlords would make no settlement but demand the rent in full. Hence the evictions followed. The houses were all knocked down and where a stubborn resistance was offered some, the men were sent to jail.
3. In 1909 by a act of Parliament all evicted tenants reinstated and all houses build up again.
The evicted tenants got reductions from eight to ten shillings in the £.
