Ar an leathanach seo

  1. There is still many people going round the country begging from house to house. Most of them were working at a time but they started to drink and spent all the money they earned.
In olden times the beggars used to get potatoes, and then they would sell them. Nowadays they get pennies or eggs. When night comes they ask to get staying in a house all night. They mostly lie at the fire on a battle [sic] of straw.
These travelling people would sometimes buy a little tea and sugar, and make the tea in a house. Sometimes they do not be able to buy tea and sugar, and they ask it in the first house they go to.
Most of the travelling people about here have nick-names. "Starch" is one of the men. He mostly stays about this part of the country.
