  1. I heard that there was ship wrecked just opposite Fanad Lighthouse. It was during the war time that it was sunk and the name of the ship was the Lusatine. The ship had a cargo of gold bars on and there was a German submarine following it. It got into the harbour and the submarine could not get in because the guns would blow it to bits. When it was dark the Lusastine put out all its lights, and was going out when it was just opposite Fanad Lighthouse, the submarine came from behind the Lighthouse and sunk the ship. Nine out of ten men were drowned, the man that was saved was sixty years of age, the other men died of cold. About two days after the ship was sunk, one hundred bodies were washed ashore, and were buried in one big grave beside the road to Fahan. My Father told me this story.
