There are a lot of local beliefs with regard to the weather.
When the clouds are low it is supposed to be a sign of rain. When the stars are bright it is a sign of frost. The west wind brings most rain to our district. Where the crows fly low it is a sign of rain and when the swans and sea-gulls come inland it is the sign of a storm.
When the donkey brays it is the sign of rain. When the cat sits with her back to the fire it is the sign of a storm and when the dog eats grass it is the sign of rain.
When there are a lot midges to be seen it is a sign of rain and when there is a sign of rain and when there is a blue blaze in the fire it is a sign of a storm.
When the ducks quack it is a sign of a storm.
