- About a mile from the town of Westport on the Leenane road three people got drowned. They were skating on the ice and it broke. The people that were looking on tried to save them by throwing them their coats but they only got lost themselves. Ever since the ice was never strong enough for sliding on.
Mary Flanagan Toabnacroagha was drowned 28 yrs ago while going across the Owenwee river. A cloud burst and the water came in a sudden, and with such fury that it swept her with it. She was driving a donkey and cleeves of turf.
About a hundred years ago Friel's dwelling house, cow house, and horse's stable were burnt three nights after each other. They said it was the fairies that burnt them.- Bailitheoir
