1. Old Sultan

   A certain farmer had a dog called Sultan that had grown old and had lost all his teeth. The farmer said to his wife one day that he would shoot him next morning, for he was no longer of any use. His wife, pitying the poor dog, said: "Well since he has served us so faithfully all his life we can give him food for the rest of his days. But her husband would not agree, "for," said he, "the thief knows that he has not a tooth in his head and he can take whatever he likes.
   The dog, which was lying on the ground, heard what they said and was very much troubled. He had a friend of a wolf in the forest and he went to him and told him what the farmer said about him. "I will help you out of your troubles," said the wolf.
   "Early to-morrow the farmer and his wife will come out to the hayfield, and will leave their child in the shade of the hedge. Then I will come and steal him away, and you follow me as fast as possible. I will let him fall and you will bring him back to his parents."
   This plan pleased the dog and all was carried out just as the wolf said. The farmer shouted as the wolf ran off with the child but as Sutan brought him back he was greatly pleased and said "not a hair shall be touched on whole carcase." When Sutan went home he got a good dinner and he lived happily for the rest of his life.
