  1. I went up the road and across the river,
    Into the big strait of sweet Glankeen,
    To my surprise twenty seven cattle,
    The best my eyes had ever seen.
    Some horny cows and some fine fat bullocks,
    That I saw grazing in sweet Glankeen
    John Reilly wandered and then he pondered,
    To see each cow how she'd chew her cud,
    Then he goes up to eat his dinner,
    And after that a sweet cup of tea,
    And that will make his short legs limber
    To walk the big srait(?) that live long days.
