- In former times many marriages took place locally during Shrove and November.
There are old sayings about marriages such as "Monday for health", "Tuesday for wealth", "Wednesday the best day of all", "Thursday for losses", "Friday for crosses", and "Saturday no day at all".
When the newly married pair are returning from the Church, they fasten an old boot on to the motor car. This is a sign of good luck and happiness. A month after their marriage the newly married pair return to the bride's home, usually on a Sunday, where there is feasting, music, and dancing, after which they return to their own home.
Some boys who are not invited to the wedding dress themselves up on straw and put masks on their faces, so as not to be known. They come to the house late in the night while the wedding is in progress and each chooses a partner for a dance. One of them usually selects the bride as a partner in the dance.
