    Down to 1900 the letters were taken to and from Ballybay by a postman.

    In November 1930 this was replaced by a motor van the route now being Castleblaney to Aughnamullen.
    The local delivery of letters was inaugurated in 1899.Two postmen did the delivery at first. Some years later an additional postman was appointed.

    For the convenience of the people in the Dromod district (the house of Patrick McCabe, Munnea (now Johnny Connolly's) was used as a kind of "Collection Box".

    For the convenience of the people in the Dromod district, the house of Patrick McCabe, Munnea (now Johnny Connolly's) was used as a kind of "Collection Box". The letters were left on a table in a room or a postman came at intervals (or perhaps daily) from Cootehill and brought them there. It was common gossip how much 'safer' letters were in Mr McCabe's than in many of the local post offices.
