But the police saw him pass McElroy's that evening on his way to Closagh to make a new suit for the man there. When questioned by the police where he was on the night of the row he replied he had been in a house fitting a sleeve in a blanket. That convicted him.

    Down to 1900 the letters were taken to and from Ballybay by a postman.

    Down to 1900 the letters were taken to and from Ballybay by a postman.
    Paddy Mullen from Aughnamullen
    was the last and had a long term of service. He usually arrived at Latton about 9.30 a.m. and left for Ballybay about 6 p.m.
    A mail - car was put on from Cortubber to Ballybay about 1900. This was a horse drawn vehicle
