  1. In former times people had home cures for nearly all their ailments. When a person got a burn they put soap on it to keep it from blistering.
    The cure for a sore throat is to put salt in a stocking and tie it round your throat at night. They sometimes gargled the throat with sand and water.
    The cure for the mumps was to put boiled potatoes in a stocking and tie it round your neck and let the steam of the potatoes go down your throat.

  2. The cure for the whooping cough was to get three different charities.
    The cure for a wart is when you see a snail rub it on the wart and then hang the snail on a bush, and when the snail dies the wart will die.
    The cure for the toothache is to put baking soda on it or saltpetre and let it melt round the tooth.
    The cure for the measles is to boil
