  1. Saint Martin's day is celebrated on the 11th of November each year. There are not many old customs practised in this district.
    A fowl is killed and the blood spilt on the ground in honour of the saint. It a horse is working on a farm a cock is killed and the blood spilt at the stable door, but if it is a mare that is working on a farm a hen is killed.
    Long ago no mills were worked or no wheels turned because it is said Saint Martin was martyred by being ground in a mill.
