  1. Not very long ago there lived in the townland of Ballyartney a great high jumper by the name of Paddy Bermingham. He was known locally as "Paddy the Sweeper"
    When in form he used to clean six feet four inches.
    The people of the place boasted that he was the champion jumper of Ireland.
    One time there was sports held in Kilrush.
    There was also another great jumper in Tipperary by the name of John Leahy. The two men were to compete at these sports.
    The day came and it was snowing near the time for the jumping contest to begin.
    By this time the "Sweeper" and his supporters had arrived and were refreshing themselves in a nearby public house.
