raw potatoes was also commonly used.
Some people used to eat roast potatoes late at night before they went to bed. On Easter Sunday it was customary long ago for people - especially children - to eat as many eggs as possible. On Christmas Day some people used to have a roast duck stuffed with potatoes and onions.
Tea was first used in this locality about a hundred years ago. In the beginning it was used only once a day usually in the morning. At that time they did not know how to make it properly. They used to make it very strong and leave it on the fire too long. I heard of people who boiled the tea and then threw away the water and the leaves. Long ago noggins were used instead of cups.
