  1. There are a lot of old beliefs in this country. There are beliefs about good luck, bad luck, fairies, and witches. Most beliefs are about cows and milk. If you go into a byre, and a person milking, you should say good luck to the work or God bless your cows or if you don't you may be suspected of taking the luck away. If a person goes into a house where churning is going on you are expected to take a brash so as to put more butter on the churn. This is called leaving your weight on the churn. If a person is looking at another person's cattle, he is expected to say "Those are fine animals God bless them." If you don't say this you may be suspected to be taking away the luck for your own animals.
If you cut branches of a lone-bush it is said that you will have bad-luck, or if you interfere with a forth it is said to be unlucky.
