  1. I live in the townland of Toneylion, district of Kilnaleck, parish of Crosserlough and barony of Castlerahan.
    The townland of Toneylion derived its name from the Irish Tonach-Líon, the field of flax.
    There are twenty families and about 75 people in the townland of Toneylion. The commonest family name at present is Boylan but the Boylans originally came from Co. Monaghan and before their time Comiskey and MacPartland were the commonest names.
    The commonest type of house is slated but there are five very old thatched houses.
    There are four people who are over seventy years and Brian Boylan is about ninety six years so he was five years old at the time of the Famine.
    The land in Toneylion is unusually wet and hilly but it is generally rich. The area of Toneylion is one hundred and sixty four acres, two roods and ten perches.
    The hill from the Hall to the Creamery was formerly called Tow Hill. The
