  1. Buying and selling in olden times was very much different than now. There were not many shops long ago. Buying and selling was mostly done by swapping e.g. the farmers exchanged their cattle with the merchants for foodstuffs and many other things.
    Later on everything was very cheap and the people worked for as little as one penny a day. All the foodstuffs were very cheap, sugar was only 1d per lb, a pint of porter was only 2 pence but tea was very dear, when it came to Ireland first it cost 3 sovereigns, but after a couple of years it was only a guinea per lb.
