  1. There are not many stories in this district about penal days but there are stories about Cromwell and 1798. The following is a story about Cromwell.
    One day General Ireton and Cromwell were in a certain county in Ireland and they met a funeral. Ireton stopped it and asked for the nearest relative to the corpse. He ask him to sell the corpse for £500 to him, he said as you're going to bury the corpse to let it decay you might as well give it to me for 500. After a while he said he would give him £1000 for it.
    After a bit of argument, they agreed to sell it for £2000. Ireton immediately paid the £2000. Then he said "you can go
