1. Folk Story - The Last Giant of Ireland

   The following folk-story was told in our school of Newtown by a seventh class pupil whose name and Address are: Julia Mooney, Fenagh, Bagnalstown, Co. Carlow. This old story tells of how the last giant of Ireland met his death. Now this giant lived on Mt. Leinster. All belonging to him were dead, and he was all that remained. One day while he was unoccupied he decided to take a walk by the the valley far below. He did, and on crossing the River Burnn, he saw some cattle grazing peacefully by the river's bank. By this time he was feeling very hungry, and he rushed at one of them, and killed one of them. He then lay down under the shade of an old tree (still to seen by the river's bank) and partook of a good meal. When he had finished, he fell asleep. This sleep was to be his last sleep for some men found him, and burned him. Up to the present day there is still to be
