  1. We have only about a rood of land and we sow potatoes in it every year. We sow the same amount every year. My father prepares the ground. The ground is not manured before being turned up. First of all my father digs the ground with a spade. Then he makes drills with a shovel. He makes a hollow in the soil with a shovel. Then he makes another hollow about a foot away from the first. He continues this work until he has enough of drills made.
    My mother cuts the seed and she leaves an eye or two in each slit. She calls each piece in which there is no eye a skelp. She puts lime on them if my father has not the ground prepared. We generally sow Spies and Skerry Champions. We generally sow Skerry Champions
