  1. Long ago, Sutherland's grandparents of Killurine made soap. First they got a large pan, which contained two gallons, then they got 1 lb. of caustic soda with 1 1/2 half gallons of rain-water. They dissolved the soda and stirred it well, then they added 7 lbs of clean fat, and placed the pan on the fire, to let it boil for about three hours, and stirred it now, and again. Before the mixture cooled, they added 3 ozs of sal-ammoniac, and 1lb. of salt. Then they poured out the water from the bottom of the pan, and
