  1. My grandfather told me that in his young days he used to make rush candles from sheep grease, and rushes. He twisted rushes together and put twine through them.
    He dipped the rushes repeatelly in the grease, allowing them to harden and dry after each dip. When the grease was enough on them the candles were left up for use.
