which is tied around their hind legs just above the hocks.
Cows are fed with hay and mashes. These mashes are made with about two pounds of crushed oats, one double handful of meal, four pounds of mangolds and a double handful of beet pulp. This beet pulp is made from the remains of the beet which is left when sugar is made. After a cow calves she is kept in the house and is given warm drinks with bran mixed to prevent her from getting cold.
