    A Cinerary Urn
About thirty years ago Luke Fay who herded land for Stephenson in Carrickduff, (parish of Abbeylara) dug up a "very purty bowl" of pure clay in a field called the eighteen-acre field.
There is a hill in the field, or rather rising ground, and here there was a nicely shaped flag stone standing upright. Fay knew it all his life, but he started to dig one day for want of some thing else to do. This clay bowl had very nice ornamental work on the outside but Fay broke it in the digging out. He kept the broken part for years and many people in the district saw it. Some used to say there were small bits of bone in it but Fay wouldn't let on that, he was afeard he might bring trouble on himself.
Luke Fay died about 20 years ago.

    P. Coyle saw this bowl in the house of B Drake Ballinulty where Fay left it. It was thrown out as useless.
