  1. Hurling and football are played now.The first football seen around was in Mullinalaughta. It was between Gowna and Cornafean. There were fifteen players on each team. They were dressed in togs and jerseys and wore football boots. The Gowna colours were green and red, and the Cornafean colours were black and white. They were two parish teams. The match last for an hour, half an hour each way. Gowna won by three points. The scores were Gowna, 2 goals 4 points, and Cornafean 1 goal 4 points.
    There was a hurling match in Dublin in the year 1924 between Kilkenny and Cork. There were fifteen men on each side. The Kilkenny colours were green and gold, and the Cork colours were black and white. They were two of the best county teams in Ireland that time. They played for an hour, half an hour each way. Kilkenny won by two points. The
