  1. There was a hedge school in Castlecor in the Dane's field under the ditch. The teacher had a little hut that would hold himself & there he stayed. The children paid him weekly & he stayed in each district about a week or a fortnight. This school was in the open. There was a black-board in this school.

  2. There was a hedge school master in Darogue about a hundred years ago names James Killian. The pupils used to give him a little money and bring him two sods of turf every morning for fire. It was held in an old barn. The children used give him a penny a week each
