  1. Many changes have been made in the churches of Kells since the Penal Days. The first of the Catholic Churchs was where the Protestant Church is now, but by some unjust way the Protestants took it over. Lord Headfort gave the catholics the piece of land on which the present church is build in exchange for the Spire of Loyd which belonged to the catholics at the time. It was on this piece of land that the present church was built.

  2. The Church of Kells, called after the great Saint Patrick was built about the year 1795 and the rails were put there about the year 1893. Before the present church was built the old church was where Wallaces Coal Office is now or there about. During the Penal Days this was destroyed and no church was built until 1795. The people had to walk to country chapels until the church was built.
