  1. There are not many stories told in our district of the Penal Days
    In a place named Allenstown there was a vault or hiding place for priests.
    In those times there was a large sum of money for a priest's head. Some later day we are told that a priest was riding on horse back on the foot path to say mass at Cortown.
    A police man told him to get off the path, the priest refused to do so, and he was insulted. The priest told him to leave his way and the priest left him "standing" there until he came back.
