    neglected and out of spite bring on the rain. Such were the quaint beliefs dear to the hearts of our ancestors.
    As to the colour they wore the following lines were supposed to fore-tell the fate of the maid who chose the particular one:-
    Married in white you have chosen all right.
    Married in blue love ever true
    Married in pink, of you he will think.
    Married in green ashamed to be seen.
    Married in black you will wish yourself back.
    They also believed any jewels except pearls could be worn and these should be avoided
