  1. Some years ago there lived in this district a man named Tommy Reynolds. This man worked in Mr Rourke's of Dunany.
One day he was reaping corn with a few other men and a young boy named James Rafferty.
When they had the corn reaped in one field they were changed to another, and while they were going they were talking about running races. Tommy Reynolds who was a very old man challenged James Rafferty who was eighteen years of age, for a race.
The other men who were there were listening to the chat. They bet a shilling each, that James Rafferty the young boy would beat Tommy Reynolds the old man.
The race was from one end of the field to the other, a length of forty perches. The race was started, and at the finish Tommy Reynolds beat James Refferty by a perch
Mr Rourke was so delighted with the old man that he gave him five shillings.
