  1. There are many superstitions in Ireland. The Irish people have a great belief in them.
    If a jackdaw is seen flying over a house, it is a sign of bad luck.
    If a moth is seen flying round a lamp, it is a sign that you will receive a letter.
    If a red hot cinder jumps out of the fire, he that sits nearest to it will receive money.
    If a person breaks a mirror he will have bad luck for seven years.
    If a person spills salt towards himself, it is a sign of bad luck, if he spills it away from himself, he will have good luck.
