    Old Forts.
    There are many old forts in our district.The nearest one to us is the one that is situated in Mount Callan at the north side of Patrick Carney's house.it is situated in a big hill with bushes all round it.there is a stone in the middle of it and a hole down through it.Once two men came from Shannaway to see it.So one of them said he would go down and he went. When he was down a mile he got afraid and he turned up again.He also saw that the hole was steeper than ever.(so he came up again).Then he told his story to the other man and he too lost heart and they went home .
    There is another fort in Súlach Bualadh situated in John Boland's farm. Once a man
