    When I first came into theis country
    Twas to view the flowers so gay,
    When i fell in love with a pretty fair one,
    That seemed to me like flowers of may.

    or would she choose to be a sailor's wife,
    Oh! no ,kind sir ,I'd sooner tarry ,
    And lead a free and gentler life.

    Oh handsome creature the pride of nature,
    Why dost thou differ from all female,
    For you are youthful,fair and handsome
    And to marry you i am much inclined.

    Kind, sir,say's she ,I now must tell thee,
    I am promised those five years or more,
    To one O Reilly from the county Kerry,
    Which oftentimes ,grieves my heart full sore.
